In hindi Moringa is called " sahjan ".Other names are " Drumstick tree" and  "Horseradish " Tree. The botanical name of Moringa is " Moringa oleifera ".It belongs to the family -

 Moringaceae. Moringa is derived from the Tamil word murungai, which means " Twisted pods ". Oleifera  is derived from the Latin word   oleum  means " oil  "and  ferre  means -"to bear".Moringa has great medicinal values, used from old days. 

FOUND -Moringa found in Asia, Africa and in South America.

1. Leaves are tri pinnate type, means feathers like. 

2. Flowers are hermaphrodite. 

3. Moringa is a deciduous tree. 

4. Height 30 - 35 feet.

 Blooms in the winter seasons. 

6. Flowering  - once a year. Nowadays hybrid variety can be flowering twice a year.

 7. Fruits are called drum sticks. It is long, green, and has pods in it.

2. Benefits of Moringa tree:-

are counted in those trees of which every part can be edible, every part has medicinal properties.

 Leaves:- 

1. Moringa leaves are a great source of vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B6 and folate.

 2 . Moringa leaves have Mg, Fe, Ca, P, Zn, and rich in Amino acids. (18 types of amino acids are found in them). 

3 . Leaves have anti- inflammation properties because of the presence of   Isothiocyanates.

 4. Leaves are the richest source of antioxidants, which balance type 2 diabetes. 

5 . Moringa is also anti cancerous in nature because of the presence of Niazimicin. Means it can prevent cancer  (but can't treat cancer patients).

 6. Due to the presence of Vitamin A, it is very healthy for our Eyes. Or it can delay cataracts in old aged persons. 

7 . Due to the presence of chlorogenic acid, it can maintain blood sugar levels in the body.

8  . Vitamin C in the leaves, prevents scurvy disease and also helps in beating malnutrition . 

9 . Because of the abundance of Calcium and phosphorus, it is very good for our bones. It maintains bone density in the body.  In other words , it fights against osteoporosis. 

10 . Leaves are good for our digestive system.Example - gas, constipation, bloating , ulcers etc .

11 . Leaves are helpful in repairing liver cells because of the presence of polyphenols in them. 

12 . Paste of moringa Leaves can be used on  hair for hair growth, shiny hairs, and also good for our face and skin because leaves are in antiseptic nature. 

13 . Moringa works as a detoxifier, which means to clean our body and boost our immune system.

Flowers:-

 It comes in our almost 50 edible flowers.Example :-

Roses , Rosemary, Hibiscus, periwinkle Aprajita etc.Moringa flowers helps in maintaining blood sugar levels and stabilizes blood pressure. We can eat moringa flowers in the form of pakoda and vegetables.

 FRUITS:-

Fruits are called drumsticks. In South India it is used in making Sambhar. Used in preparation of sabji. 

GUMS:-

It is used in treatment of Pyorrhea or gums problem, and liver treatment and in constipation . It is red in color and has a sticky nature, and comes out from the bark of the tree. 

OILS :-

1. Oils are used in beauty cosmetics. 

2 . Used as conditioners in hairs.

3. Used as a lubricant for metals.

4. Used in soaps.

5. Used as lotion.

6. Moringa oils are used in treatment of skin diseases, joint pain, Rheumatism, gout, scurvy, constipation etc.

2. PLANTATION:-

1 . It can be grown in the courtyard and in the gardens of the house.

 2. Nowadays dwarf moringa can also be grown. 

3. We can grow it from seeds. 

4. Within 2 weeks it will germinate, and the sapling can be transferred from the pot to the garden. Vermi compost and loose soil is necessary to grow.

 5. As time passes, it will grow into a plant.

 6. But from cutting techniques we can prevent it from growing into a large tree. Means it will be a dwarf tree. 

7 . In a few years it will bear a good amount of leaves, flowers and fruits also.  

8. It can grow without any expensive care and irrigation because it is easy to grow and a very fast growing tree. 

9. Due to the high penetration power of the moringa tree it prevents soil erosion. 

Pests attack:-

1 . Moringa is affected by caterpillars, Budworms, Noctuidae causes defoliation, hairy caterpillars etc. 

2. If trees leaves becomes yellow, then there is deficiency of magnesium. 

3. We can use Epsom salt, Dolomites,  crushed Egg shells and Oysters shells etc.

3. DISHES PREPARED FROM MORINGA LEAVES ARE :-

1.  Moringa leaves simply Sauteed. 

2 . leaves in soups. 

3 .  leaves can be used on pizza.

4 .  leaves as salad.

5 . leaves in whole grain loaf.

6 .  leaves in  omelette.

7 .  bhujiya.

8 .  flowers as pakoda . 

9. Moringa fruits as sabji. 

10 . Moringa fruits as in sambhar.

11 . Moringa as in chicken soups etc. 

4. SOME DISADVANTAGES OF MORINGA

 Because of its edible parts and great medicinal properties it is also called as "Miracle tree ".

But we also know that   "Excess of anything is bad".Means if moringa is consumed in high quantities can also give adverse effects.

1 . Moringa has laxative properties that may pass in the infants through mother's milk through breastfeeding.

 2 . Many companies are selling adulterated leaves that may contain leads. 

3 . A pregnant lady may cause uterine contraction.

 4 . May lower blood pressure. 

5. COMMERCIAL USE of moringa

1. Moringa leaves are now coming in powder form and in tablet form. 

2. It is now easy to consume, because of the little bitter taste. 

3. Moringa has now occupied a most important place in the medicine market .

Ans:- Best medicine is moringa for cholesterol. It is natural detoxifier.

Ans:- Other is  Bel patra. put  Some leaves of bel patra in sun light. Make powder of bel leaves. We can take it with warm water. 

3 . Can garlic helps in controlling triglycerides? 

Ans:-  Allicin is present in garlic. It removes triglycerides and makes good cholesterol. Only one piece of garlic is enough. We should take it unripe in morning.
